Having My Say

For most of my professional life I have worked in either political offices or in local government. This has been in jobs where, inter alia, I have been responsible for writing countless speeches, media releases, reports - and all manner of internal policy advice and briefing documents not meant for the public eye.  Invariably, when something I crafted was intended for the public, it would be issued in someone else's name.

I'm not complaining because I've been privileged to have had some great jobs. However not since my student days have I truly had the chance to freely express an opinion in writing. Mostly this has been for reasons of protecting the interests of my employer or, more importantly, to protect my own career.

The contrarian side of my nature has been effectively suppressed.  But there are no such constraints on me now and I have no excuses for keeping shtum.  Not sure if this will be only a temporary situation,  but I intend using this blog to take advantage of the opportunity.

So why am I doing this?  Simply because I can!
